Caring & Sharing

Picture of Caring & Sharing

Bridges of Peace and Hope (BoPH) teachers and students in New York and Connecticut are collecting winter clothing to distribute to children in communities that were severely impacted by the flooding caused by Hurricane Irene. We are working with teachers and parents in four school districts in the Catskills and surrounding area to deliver the donated goods to those in need. The schools are located in Margaretville, Middleburgh, Schoharie, and Windham.

Families in all of these communities have suffered great losses - some have lost their homes, many have had all their possessions destroyed. They are receiving help from many church groups, and other organizations and agencies, but the need is great.

BoPH representative John Farrell has visited all of these towns recently and had discussions with members of the school communities in each location. As a result of these meetings we believe we can be most helpful by providing winter clothing for children in these schools.

Students from BoPH classrooms will also be sending letters and artwork that express their concern and willingness to help those who were effected. We hope to establish some penpal connections between schools.

Singer songwriter and BoPH member John Farrell will also be visiting some of the schools to do assembly programs to let these students and teachers know that we care about them.
